---|---|---|---|
Black Bass | Fair | Up to 5 pounds | Smallmouth bass numbers have been on the rise and the population is starting to look like the robust fishery seen in the previous decade. From the most recent sample, 44% of the smallmouth were over 14 inches. They can be found along the dam and any other rocky areas. The largemouth bass population underperforms at this lake and currently is providing only a mediocre fishery. Best spots are around the island and the East bank. |
Crappie | Fair/poor | Most 10-12" | Crappie numbers are never high at this lake and they are currently below normal. West side of the island is one of the better spots to find them. |
Catfish | Good | Varies | The lake supports a pretty good channel catfish population with fair numbers of bigger fish available. Along the West bank seems to be the most consistent spot. The lake also supports a low-level blue catfish and flathead catfish populations. |
Walleye and Sauger | Fair to Good | Up to 6 pounds | The lake maintains a modest walleye population with fairly good harvest rates. The most recent fish samples suggest walleye numbers are below average but will be boosted with new stockings this year. The lake has been home to a rapidly expanding sauger populations for the last four years. These fish have been doing very well at this lake and growing to 15 inches in two years. The 2024 fall sample showed that 34% of the sauger were already at least 15 inches with another 30% that were close. Walleye and sauger can be caught using similar methods, usually best to drag a nightcrawler or troll crankbaits. The two species are combined in KS regulations and an angler can harvest a combined total of 2 per day at the Jeffrey Lakes that are over the 15-inch minimum length limit. |
White Bass | Slow to Fair | Most below 12" | The lake has been home to one of the best white bass fisheries in the state.... but the current population is well below normal with few large fish available. |
Wiper | Good to Excellent | Up to 8 pounds | Wiper numbers are above average and is dominated by the 2022 year-class with 53% of the fish collected last fall were 15 to 17 inches long. There are also decent numbers of bigger fish with 19% over 20 inches but we did not see any really big fish over 8 pounds. This time of year wiper can be found cruising the face of the dam most days. |
