Application for permit for actions affecting T&E species.
KDWP recently updated the state threatened and endangered species list. The state-wide list below have been updated to reflect the new list of protected species, however, the individual county lists accessible from this page are not yet updated.
The most significant changes to the state T&E list are summarized below. Please note that several changes to common and scientific names were also updated during the review period; these changes are not summarized below. Please be aware that if one of these species occurs in a particular county, the county listing of critical designated habitat may no longer be accurate.

Overview of the Conservation and Management Plan
The Kansas Black-Tailed Prairie Dog Conservation and Management Plan is designed to minimize and potentially eliminate the current threat to prairie dog populations as listed in the US FWS 12-month finding published in the Federal Register (Feb 4, 2000: Vol. 65, No. 24). The five threats are as follow:
1. Present or threatened destruction, modification, or curtailment of its habitat or range.
2. Over utilization for commercial, recreational, scientific, or educational purposes.
3. Disease or predation.
4. Inadequacy of existing regulatory mechanisms.
5. Other natural or manmade factors affecting its continued existence including Control (Poisoning) and Habitat Fragmentation.
