FIRST COMMISSION BIG GAME PERMITS AWARDED
Seven conservation groups drawn from 59 applicants
PRATT – Seven Kansas conservation groups are winners in the first-ever drawing for Commission Big Game Permits. Fifty-nine organizations applied for the seven available permits, which were drawn and announced at the Jan. 19 meeting of the Kansas Wildlife and Parks Commission in Kansas City.
Commission permits were authorized by the 2005 Kansas Legislature. Legislative provisions authorized issuance of up to seven commission permits annually, including no more than one elk and one antelope permit, with the remainder designated Any Deer permits, which allow the holder to take either a whitetail or mule deer. The transferable permits will be used by participating organizations in auctions or raffles to help raise funds for conservation projects, and are valid for the 2006 hunting seasons.
Permits were drawn by the following organizations: Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Wichita Chapter (elk permit); Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Greater Kansas City Chapter (deer permit); Ducks Unlimited, Southcentral Kansas Chapter (deer permit); Kansas Friends of NRA, Greenwood Chapter (deer permit); Quail Forever, State Chapter (deer permit); Friends of NRA, Flint Hills Chapter (deer permit); and Friends of NRA, Nemaha Valley Chapter (deer permit).
