TROUT SEASON OPENS OCT. 15
Lakes statewide to be stocked with trout through April 15, 2007
PRATT -- The Kansas trout season begins Oct. 15 and runs through April 15, 2007. During this cool period of the year, the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) stocks rainbow trout in designated waters throughout the state. Anyone fishing for trout in these waters must purchase a $12.15 trout permit, whether they are required to have a fishing license or not. Trout permits are valid for the calendar year, so permits purchased last January are valid through Dec. 31. All residents 16-64 years old, and all non-residents 16 and older must also have a valid fishing license.
Mined Land Wildlife Area #30 (Cherokee County) and Tuttle Creek State Park Willow Lake, where trout survive through the summer, require a trout permit year-round. Beginning Jan. 1, some waters will require a trout permit during trout season whether the angler is fishing for trout or not. Check posted notices at each area for more information.
The daily creel limit is 5 trout unless posted otherwise. The possession limit is 15.
Trout permits are available online, at KDWP offices, some county clerk offices, and license vendors. For information on stocking dates and locations or to purchase a permit, visit the KDWP website , www.kdwp.state.ks.us.
