LOVEWELL FUN DAY AUG. 4
Archery, mud volleyball, minnow races, outdoor cook-off to highlight event
MANKATO -- The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP), the Lovewell Lake Association, and Lovewell Marina at Lovewell State Park are sponsoring the annual Lovewell Fun Day on Saturday, Aug. 4.
Events begin with registration for a 3-D archery shoot from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., including categories for manual or mechanical release and divisions for men, women, and youth. A $5 donation for the competition is suggested.
Co-ed teams comprising three men and three women will compete in a mud volleyball tournament at 10 a.m. The double elimination tournament requires a $10 entry fee per team, with a 16-team limit. A mud volleyball tournament for youth 12 and younger will also be held. Youth teams will consist of two to six players and will be single elimination with no entry fee. Pre-registrations for both the adult and youth mud volleyball tournaments are requested at the Lovewell State Park Office by Thursday, Aug. 2.
Other events scheduled for the Fun Day include a casting contest at 9 a.m. and minnow races at 11 a.m., both at the marina. At the Pioneer Day Use Area playground, log races will begin at noon; a water balloon toss is scheduled for 2 p.m.; a waterslide contest will begin at 3 p.m.; and a Frisbee throwing contest will start at 4 p.m. These events are for all ages.
An Outdoor Cook-off Contest will also be held at the Pioneer Day Use area. Chefs must register by 2 p.m. at the park office. Judging will be conducted by the first 100 people who contribute $5 for a taste-testing ticket. Donations are used for prizes at Lovewell State Park’s special events throughout the year. Judging tickets will be available at the cook-off area at 5 p.m., and judging will run from 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
