Youth can win lifetime hunting licenses in Longest Pheasant Tail Feather Contest
RUSSELL — On Nov. 6-7, the Black & Gold Pheasants Forever Chapter 794 (Russell) and the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) will sponsor the 2010 Upland Youth Season challenge. The event will be headquartered at Sportsman’s Corner, 231 E. Wichita Ave. in Russell.
During these two days, which are the youth pheasant and quail season, kids 16 and younger who hunt can compete in the Longest Tail Feather Contest. Lifetime hunting licenses will be given away to the boy and girl who harvest the pheasant with longest tail feather and present it to Sportsman’s Corner between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, or from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 7. Feathers must be dropped off in person by the youth who harvested the bird and his or her mentor. No tail feathers will be accepted after 5 p.m.
Only youth 16 and younger are eligible, and the wild pheasant tail feather must be harvested by the youth during youth upland season. Only one tail feather per youth can be submitted.
