FUN DAY AT LOVEWELL STATE PARK AUG. 7

Archery and mud volleyball tournaments, log races, outdoor cook-off highlight event
WEBBER — The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks and Lovewell Marina at Lovewell State Park are sponsoring the annual Lovewell Fun Day on Saturday, Aug. 7. Events begin with registration for a 3-D archery shoot from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., and the shoot will conclude at noon. Participants will compete in divisions for men, women, and youth. A $5 donation is suggested to enter.

Lovewell Reservoir has been closed for several weeks because of a toxic blue-green algae bloom in the lake, and it is possible that the lake will be closed during this event. Participant who want to use the lake this weekend should phone 785-753-4971 before making plans.

A double elimination, co-ed (three men and three women) mud volleyball tournament begins at 10 a.m., with a $10 entry fee per team and a 16-team limit. Pre-registration for the mud volleyball tournament is requested at the Lovewell State Park Office by Thursday, Aug. 5.

Other events scheduled for the Fun Day include minnow races at 10 a.m. at the marina, log races at noon at the Pioneer Day-use Area playground, a water balloon toss at 2 p.m., a waterslide contest at 3 p.m., and a Frisbee throwing contest at 4 p.m. These events are for all ages.

An outdoor cook-off will be held at the Pioneer Day-use Area. Chefs must register by 2 p.m. at the park office. Judges will be chosen from the first 100 people who contribute $5 for a taste-testing ticket. Donations are used for prizes at Lovewell State Park special events throughout the year. Judging tickets will be available at the cook-off area beginning at 5 p.m. Judging will start at 6 p.m. and end by 6:30 p.m.
