KDWP OPENS NEW CABINS AT KINGMAN STATE FISHING LAKE

Open for reservation year-round, cabins offer comfortable accommodations for anglers and hunters
PRATT -— The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) has announced the opening of two new fee cabins at Kingman State Fishing Lake, 7 miles west of Kingman on U.S. Highway 54. The two modern fee cabins overlook the lake, and the area charges no entry fees. The cabins are available year-round and will accommodate as many as six overnight guests. The area around the lake provides hiking, wildlife viewing, primitive camping year-round, and a newly-refurbished group shelter for family gatherings.

The lake’s main attraction is fishing, and hunting is available on the adjacent 4,622-acre Byron Walker Wildlife Area, through which the Ninnescah River flows.

The air conditioned and heated cabins sleep six comfortably on one queen, one single futon, one double futon, and one single Murphy beds. Users must provide their own bedding, pillows, towels, and toiletries. A hot shower, complete kitchen, refrigerator, stovetop, and microwave are included, along with an outdoor patio with gas grill and picnic table. A fire ring is available for evening campfires. Other amenities include an outside hydrant, kitchen utensils, dishes, pots, pans, and coffee pot.

For reservations or more information, click “Cabin Reservations” on the KDWP website, www.kdwp.state.ks.us. The $10.50 cabin reservation fee cannot be refunded, but if the office is notified seven days prior to reservation, the cabin rental fee can be refunded. To ensure availability, reservations should be made seven days prior to arrival.

KDWP offers these and more than 90 other cabins at 20 state parks and five wildlife areas throughout the state.
