KANSAS FUR HARVESTERS ASSOCIATION 2010 RENDEZVOUS OCT. 1-3

Event in Osborne provides education and tools for upcoming trapping seasons
OSBORNE — Kansas furbearer hunting and trapping seasons begin Nov. 17, and to prepare both seasoned and novice trappers, the Kansas Fur Harvesters Association will conduct its annual rendezvous Oct. 1-3 at the Osborne County Fairgrounds in Osborne. The days will be filled with demonstrations on topics such as bobcat and other species-specific trapping, how to make water sets, predator calling, setting various trap types, calling, equipment care, and much more. Furharvester agent Lee Steinmeyer, Onaga, will give daily demonstrations on proper fur handling, and vendors of both new and used trapping equipment will present their wares for sale.

The public is invited to attend this fascinating and educational event. Meals will be available on site. Hookups for campers are $10 per night with a $1 dumping fee per day. Primitive camping is free.

Kids games, a skillet toss contest, and a trap setting contest make this annual event even more fun. It’s also the perfect opportunity for trappers and furbearer hunters to network, glean information on the latest techniques and equipment, and stock up on supplies for the winter seasons. The event will be highlighted Saturday evening, Oct. 2, when a fur coat (made by Fur Arts, of Kansas City, Mo.) is presented to Miss Rodeo Kansas 2011.
