GREAT PLAINS NATURE CENTER SITE OF FAMILY FISHING NIGHTS
April 18, 2013
Summer fun for the whole family at free fishing events through Great Plains Nature Center
PRATT – The Great Plains Nature Center (GPNC) and the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism (KDWPT) will host the first of five Family Fishing Nights for the 2013 season at Chisholm Island Pond April 25 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Each event is open to participants of all ages and abilities. The GPNC is located at 6232 E 29th St. N, Wichita.
“Since 2009, our Family Fishing Nights have allowed both adults and children to learn and experience the outdoors together,” said KDWPT district fisheries biologist Jessica Mounts. “Whether participants have fished before or are trying it for the first time, this provides them with a comfortable and supportive learning environment that’s fun for everyone involved.”
Registered participants will be provided with fishing equipment and bait for this free event.
“Because we are able to supply the equipment and offer these programs at no cost, families don't have to invest a lot of time or money to try something new,” said Mounts. “In fact, we recommend families attend more than one event because we want families to gain enough experience and information to be comfortable trying fishing on their own.”
Four additional Family Fishing Nights are scheduled for 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on May 16, June 20, July 18 and August 15. Space is limited so pre-registration is recommended.
Children must be accompanied by an adult.
