From predator calling demos to trap-setting contests, this event has it all
PRATT – The Kansas Fur Harvesters Association (KFHA) is hosting its annual State Rendezvous Oct. 3-5, 2014, and everyone from the experienced trapper to the beginner coyote caller is welcome to attend. The event will be held at the Woodson County Fairgrounds, 713 S Fry, Yates Center, and attendees are not required to be a KFHA member to participate.
The event will kick off Friday, Oct. 3 at 6:30 a.m. with breakfast. Buildings will open at 8 a.m. where experienced furharvesters will conduct nine demonstrations, including otter trapping techniques, snare making, and predator calling. The day’s events will conclude with a bean feed at 6 p.m.
Festivities will continue on Saturday with another 6:30 a.m. breakfast, followed by demonstrations at 8 a.m. At 2 p.m., women can participate in a skillet toss competition or try their luck at the 2:30 p.m. trap setting contest open to all. Demonstrations will continue from 3 p.m. through 6 p.m. when attendees can enjoy a fried fish supper.
Following dinner on Saturday night, the KFHA’s general meeting, awards program, and fur show will be conducted. A white elephant auction and two drawings will also take place that night.
Throughout the weekend rendezvous, as many as 26 vendors will be on hand, providing tips and displaying their latest products.
