FOSSIL HIKE AT TUTTLE CREEK STATE PARK

PRATT – Whether you’re looking for a reason to get outside or your child is in need of a unique “show and tell” item for school, consider participating in a fossil hike on March 8 at Tuttle Creek State Park from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.

The fossils were discovered after a series of floods in 1993 exposed a “canyon” below the overflow spillway of Tuttle Creek Lake. Guided by local AmeriCorps personnel, participants will find some of these buried treasures without any special equipment. Terrain is rocky, so wear good hiking shoes and bring plenty of water.

There is no cost to participate in the hike; however visitors without an annual park entrance permit or Park Passport must purchase a $5 daily vehicle permit to enter the park. Hikers should arrive at the Tuttle Creek State Park office before 1 p.m.

For more information on this event, contact Tuttle Creek State Park manager Todd Lovin at (785) 539-7941.
