Wildlife, Parks and Tourism Commission Meeting Set For Nov. 16
PRATT – The Kansas Wildlife, Parks and Tourism (KWPT) Commission will conduct their next public meeting on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at the Bryan Conference Center, 101 S Main, in Scott City. The afternoon session will begin at 1 p.m. and recess at 5 p.m. The evening session will convene at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend both sessions and time will be set aside for public comment at the beginning of each for discussion of non-agenda items.
The afternoon session will begin with a report on the agency and state fiscal status and an update on the 2018 Kansas legislative session. The General Discussion portion of the meeting will include an update on Historic Lake Scott State Park, the Scott riffle beetle, and a review of antelope and elk regulations, Public Lands regulations, and Coast Guard navigation rules.
The Workshop Session will include reviews of permanent big game regulations, deer regulations, and threatened and endangered species regulations.
The evening portion of the meeting will convene at 6:30 p.m., during which time the General Discussion portion of the meeting will continue with an update on the playa lakes, followed by the Public Hearing.
Items that will be voted on during the Public Hearing portion of the meeting include fee increases pertaining to long-term camping, boat registrations, and private cabin permits. Fishing regulations will be presented including requiring a written notice when someone gives fish to another person, allowing dead gizzard shad to be sold as bait, separating blue and channel catfish creel limits, extending commercial fish bait permits to three years, and a variety of length and creel limit changes, including a proposal to implement a 25- to 40-inch slot length limit for blue catfish on Milford Reservoir.
If necessary, the Commission will reconvene at the same location at 9 a.m., November 17, 2017, to complete any unfinished business.
