Senior Lifetime Pass

On 10/18/24, the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks announced it had stopped selling a 10-year combination of hunting and fishing licenses for Kansas residents aged 65 to 74. The decision follows the discovery that the statute authorizing the department to sell the licenses had expired. The licenses were commonly called a Senior Lifetime Pass.

Why can't I purchase a Senior Lifetime Pass for hunting and fishing?

The statute that authorized the special Senior Lifetime Pass has expired.

I already have this license, is mine still valid?

Yes. All Senior Lifetime Passes that were sold past the statutory expiration were sold in good faith and will remain valid. You do not need to do anything.

Will this ever be available again?

We do not know but are exploring regulatory and statutory options to again offer discounted multi-year licenses to seniors. Annual hunting, fishing, and combination licenses remain available for Kansans aged 65 to 74 at discounted rates.

What other options for discounted licenses do I have as a senior?

Annual senior licenses for Kansas residents ages 65 to 74 remain available at significantly discounted rates. The Resident Senior Annual Hunting License is $15; the Resident Senior Annual Fishing License is $15; and the Resident Senior Annual Combo license for hunting and fishing is $25.

There are also numerous locations across the state to purchase your license.

Who determined this?

When it was discovered that the statute that authorized the department to sell the Senior Lifetime Pass had expired, the Acting Secretary instructed staff to stop selling them.

What is the effective date of this change?

This change is effective immediately.

Why didn't you let us know ahead of time that these would no longer be available?

Because the statute had already expired when we became aware, we could not legally continue to sell the Senior Lifetime Passes for any length of time.

Who can I talk to about this?

You can call our Licensing department at 620-672-5911.

Can I still get annual senior fishing and hunting licenses?

Yes. Annual senior licenses are available at rates significantly discounted from a standard license. At this time, the Resident Senior Annual Hunting license (for ages 65-74) is $15; the Resident Senior Annual Fishing license (for ages 65-74) is $15; and the Resident Senior Annual Combo license (for hunting and fishing, ages 65-7) is $25.

Can KDWP create a new Senior Lifetime Pass?

Right now, we must stop selling the senior Lifetime Pass, but we are exploring regulatory and statutory options to offer additional discounted rates for seniors in the future.
