Meade State Park
Located 8 miles south and 5 miles west of the city of Meade on K-23
Meade State Park was originally carved out of the Turkey Track Ranch in 1927. The park rests in the high plains of southwest Kansas, just west of the Red Hills. Meade Lake has 80 acres of water and 440 surrounding acres of campsites and wildlife area. Fishing is allowed in the lake year-round with motorized boating restricted to fishing only and no wake speed. Bluegill, Channel Cat & Flathead Catfish, Trout, Saugeye, Crappie and Largemouth Bass are plentiful and provide excellent opportunities for the angler.
For nature lovers who like to identify various different trees, grasses, flowers and birds, a nature trail offers birding, biking, and hiking opportunities.
The 360-acre wildlife area offers good opportunities for dove and quail hunters. Deer, turkey, rabbit, and some waterfowl also inhabit the area and offer hunters an occasional mixed bag.
The Meade Fish Hatchery is located west of Meade Lake. Tours are available by appointment by calling 620-873-2701. The best times to see fish are April through June. Visit the hatchery website for more information.
